“Due to limited resources, only a fraction of eligible Pennsylvanians are able to obtain the civil legal assistance that they desperately need. The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened economic disparities and widened the resulting justice gap. Millions are now without jobs. Workers and their families lose health insurance as a result; their ability to pay rents or mortgages dries up; and it is a fact that the poor are much more vulnerable to the virus. In 2020, Americans also finally confronted the reality of systemic racism that has inflicted pain and clouded our history for four hundred years.
It is truly a time that tries our souls. These concerns are at the core of our IOLTA mission to make sure that quality legal assistance reaches as many as possible, with a heightened realization of what equal justice under law requires. Let us take encouragement from the final words of the late John Lewis, “Walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your [our] guide.”View The Board of Directors »
