A Message from the pa iolta Board Chair

Gretchen L. Kelly, Esq. Board Chair

“Four words appear above the doors to the United States Supreme Court: Equal Justice Under Law. The importance of those simple words cannot be overstated. The stability and welfare of our country depend, in large part, upon a properly functioning judicial system, one which the public respects and in which it has confidence. To engender that respect and confidence, equal access for all to the justice system is critical. Without proper access to legal counsel, equal justice under law cannot be achieved.

Current funding for legal services in Pennsylvania is not sufficient to meet the needs of all those who require legal assistance but are unable to afford it. The Pennsylvania IOLTA Board is committed to supporting equal access to justice through grants to non-profit organizations and law school clinical programs providing free civil legal services to the Commonwealth’s underserved individuals.”
